 2016 Preview 


       North Sand Mountain completed the 2015 season with a 7-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region seven, the Bison earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. North Sand Mountain reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Madison Academy by a score of 44-7.

       The Bison hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Kirby saw improvement as they won seven games following a 1-9 record in 2014.

       North Sand Mountain was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Bison want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.4 points a game.

       Since 2010, North Sand Mountain has gone a combined 38-28. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 3A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, North Sand Mountain has managed to compile a record of 101-156. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 3A and 292nd in the AHSAA.

Jeff Monroe will not return for the 2016 football season at North Sand Mountain. After improving from a 1-9 season in 2014, the Bison went 7-5 last year winning only the third playoff game in school history.

Coach Monroe leaves after just two seasons with a 8-14 record. He announced after the last game of the season of his plans to retire after 26 years of coaching and teaching.


Keith Kirby, a 1999 graduate of North Sand Mountain, will be the head football coach at the school for the 2016 season. This will be his first head coaching position.



       The North Sand Mountain Bison will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2016 season.

       The Bison should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Bison open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Fairview on Friday, August 19 at Lloyds Dobbins Field. Last year the Fairview Aggies finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 5A region seven. The Aggies ended last season on a positive note with a win over Vinemont by a score of 49-20 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       This will be the second meeting between North Sand Mountain and Fairview on the football field. The Bison have a 1-0-0 record against the Aggies. They last met in with
